Photo by me. Bathing suit by IMSY Swimwear. This week's Link roundup is a little short and day late but for good reason - I've been busy! Last Saturday I shot a wedding, Sunday we had a hurricane and lost power for the whole day, Monday was the first day of Providence Style Week, and last night after the shows I got to see my favorite band Bright Eyes!

Watermarks: Protecting Your Images, or Damaging Your Business? My stance of watermarks? As you can see above I keep it simple and in the corner out of the way. The goal is for people to look at your photo and appreciate it and not for them to comment on how your watermark is taking up half the photo.

Gear Works // Sony Alpha a580 Video Tests

Yesterday my new DSLR, the Sony Alpha a580, came in the mail. It was a complete impulse buy but I needed a new camera. I love that this one shoots HD video! The downside is there is no auto focus while recording video so I will have to get used to manually focusing while recording. For most of these test videos I used the Sony Zeiss 24-70mm 2.8 lens. It's a beast of a lens because it's so heavy so trying to hold the camera steady while manually focusing was difficult. Thankfully my 50mm and my 28mm are tiny so it shouldn't be that difficult to do.

Oribe in Boston

Last week I shot an event for celebrity hair stylist, Oribe at Bijou night club in the theater district in Boston. I actually had no idea what I'd be shooting, it all happened so fast. Really all I knew was it was for Oribe and I had to be in Boston at 9:30 in the morning.

The event was for Oribe to do a few demonstrations on models in front of local hair stylists. Then after a lunch break all the hair stylists would be doing the same hairstyle showed to them on their own model. It was an extremely long day but it was a lot of fun and I met some amazing people that I'll be working with in the future.

Photos of Oribe's models for the day.

Treats photographed by Emily Stamp

Sorry this week's Link Roundup is a day late. It was ready to go on time I just forgot to post it! Yesterday was super busy with Shawn and I going to Boston for a Red Sox game, an impromptu business meeting, and dinner at a hibachi restaurant (I've never had hibachi before). So without much further ado, here is this week's Link Roundup.

That's all for this week's roundup! I've been enjoying sharing things I find on the web that may not be related to photography.

Photo Story // Lady Drea

My friend Lauren and I planned to a do a Lady Gaga inspired shoot. We didn't want to do an exact replica of a Lady Gaga look but we just wanted to pay homage to her. I asked our friend Jeannine, fantastic hair stylist and contestant on Hair Battle Extravaganza 2 on Oxygen, to join us on this project. Jeannine made this fantastic head piece that definitely went above and beyond what I was expecting. Lauren did an awesome job on makeup within the time constraints we had. Apparently everyone in Southern New England had to go buy makeup at her MAC counter right when she was doing makeup. And last but certainly not least, a big thank you to Drea for filling in as our model at the last minute. She did a fantastic job channeling her inner Lady Gaga.

Clients From Hell gets me really worked up after reading a few pages. I've had some conversations with clients that definitely belong on this website.

Client: The website looks great, but I think we need more images of children. Do you have a database of images of children that we could take from…?

A second e-mail arrives a few moments later.

Client: I just realized what I was asking. Please ignore and delete all my e-mails with the subject line “Need photos of children.”

/////

Client: Well… we just want the logo to be less corn-related. Can you just make it less corn-like?

Me: I’m sorry? I was under the impression was that this was exactly what you were looking for.

Client: No, no, it is. It is! But we discussed it and we think people would probably be bored by the whole corn part. So let’s make it less corn-related.

Me: I must not be understanding. The product you’re trying to sell is still corn, right?

Client: Yes. But try not to draw to much attention to that.

Photo Story // Amanda at the Beach

I'll let you in on a little secret. I hate the beach. Ok, maybe I don't hate them but I definitely don't do beaches. I don't like hot sand and I hate stepping on broken seashells. I don't swim and I hate even walking at the edge of water. It's always too hot and I never have anything to wear to the beach. So when Amanda said she wanted to shoot at the beach, I wasn't too pleased. But of course I did it and I survived. Doesn't mean I'm going back to the beach any time soon.

I also did the makeup for this shoot, which was a first for me. Don't be too harsh!
