2011: The Year in Review

brittanny

2011 has been a hell of a year for me. My photography has evolved so much over the past year. I'm starting to come into my own style that I'm happy with. My style will be constantly evolving and I'm already planning on trying out new things in 2012. The first two years of my career was just figuring out what the hell I was doing and in 2011 I saw it all finally come together. No photographer should be complacent in their work. They should always be ready and willing to learn more. There is so much more to learn and I'm excited to see what the new year will bring.

I thought about how I wanted to wrap up this year in one post. Did I want to show my favorite photos of the year like I did last year? I could but it wouldn't be very personal and you guys have already seen all these photos before. So I thought that the more entertaining option would be to show you my year through my Instagram photos. With the help of ink361.com, I complied some of my favorite moments of 2011.

The majority of the year outside (and sometimes during) work has been hanging out friends, old and new. I've become friends with some awesome people this year. I definitely have a great support system of creative and fun friends to help keep me going, especially when times are tough.

This year I had the chance to meet my half-sister for the first time. She actually found me through this website! Along with building a relationship with her, Shawn and I now have two beautiful nieces to hang out with.

Going through my Instagram feed, I saw that the majority of my photos were of food and drinks. We definitely ate extremely well this year.

I've had so many fantastic photo shoots this year. The thing that really made them great has been collaborating with so many people. I've had the chance to work with great models, designers, makeup artists, and hair stylists this year. I've also filmed more behind the scenes videos which helped me get back into my love of video.

Speaking of video, the end of the year brought along two new video projects. For those who don't know, I got my degree in Film Studies and I focused on video editing. My lovely friend Jasmine who works for Style Week Providence remembered me saying how I wish I did more video work. After a ton of meetings we came up with The Trunk Show, a video blog on what's stylish in Rhode Island. I also came up with a new personal project called 'stripped' which lives up to it's name. It's just the artist and the camera, performing for no one else but for who is watching.

I've had some great experiences this year. I got to shoot Dropkick Murphys four times! I was honored when I was asked the first time but I got to keep coming back to shoot more. From building a relationship with the DM family, I was asked to shoot the advertisements for Lola's Tequila Bar and Cantina. Also I was asked to shoot an Oribe event in Boston. Shooting for a celebrity hair stylist and about 30 plus hair stylists there to learn some techniques from him was quite the experience.

I have to thank my fiance Shawn for being so supportive of my career and just being there for me throughout our entire relationship. He is my best friend and I'm so lucky to have him be there for me, and even dealing with the third person in our relationship (my computer).

Even though this year has had its downs, it truly has been amazing. I am lucky to have my friends, family, and health. Here's to 2012 being even better!

The Trunk Show: Julie Tremaine

This week The Trunk Show interviewed Julie Tremaine, the executive editor of Providence Media. Julie talks about her love of the fashion community in Rhode Island and Providence Monthly's work with Style Week Providence.

Link Roundup // Local Girls

brittanny

I haven't done a Link Roundup in so long! I'll spare the excuses so let's just get into it. I wanted to feature local fashion bloggers. There are not many here in Providence, which is a shame. There are a few lovely ladies though, gracing the area with their blogging skills.

I Am The Everyday Girl (dot com) are two girls who run a vintage store called blouse. I won't go too much into detail since we just did a video on them for The Trunk Show (which I highly suggest you watch). Jen and Jane are awesome girls who want every girl to who comes across their blog to see the beauty and value within themselves.

Gypsy is a "roaming resale boutique" run by three women who blog about what on trend and how you can style your vintage finds.

The Pink Cigarette is run by the Director of Designer Management and Acquisition, Jennifer Showstead. Her blog posts features outfit of the days, spotlights on fashion people in the area, and what inspires her.

Taina Style is run by fashion stylist Glenda Delgado. She posts her latest photo shoots, her thoughts on the styling in some of her favorite photo spreads, and different trends that she's feeling at the moment.

I'm always on the hunt for new local fashion blogs to follow so please link some that you follow and be on the lookout for part two of this post!

stripped // cole alexander "between the sheets"

New video in "stripped" by my friend Cole Alexander. I wanted to add someone singing and playing guitar early on in my series to show that it's just not about hip hop or spoken word. I really want this series to be about all genres of music. I'm going to be filming some amazing singer/ songwriters from the area and I'm really excited about it.

The Trunk Show: Lauren O'Jea

brittanny

So you may have seen the name Lauren O'Jea appear a lot of my blog. She's my main makeup artist for my photo shoots. The part I don't blog about is that we probably spend way too much time together, I am the sister she never had who steals her perfume and her wine, and that she's one of my closest friends and I love her a lot (aww, sentimental moments). So with that said, it was nice to feature her on The Trunk Show. She is an amazing makeup artist and she deserves every bit of recognition she gets.
