Photo Story // The Nilotic

Shooting The Nilotic brought out a first for me. It was my first time shooting something that was specifically dark and unsettling. This shoot was not meant to be pretty and airbrushed. The Nilotic is a pansexual, crossdressing rapper who is not afraid to push the boundaries and break into people's comfort zones. His goal is to make you think about sexuality, gender, religion, popular culture, and more with his lyrics. It was definitely an interesting and cool experience photographing and getting to know The Nilotic. So if you can handle it, check out his website and listen to his music (it's definitely NSFW but did you really think it would be?).

Office Space

I love looking at photos of people's workspaces and computer set ups. I am in quite a few groups on Flickr dedicated to showing off desks and workspaces. It inspires me to think up with my dream workspace would be like.

Right now I'm at the office where I edit travel videos. I'm always cleaning and organizing the space because it gets cluttered really fast. I just cleaned up so I wanted to make a quick post of my workspace at the office. All photos were taken with the ShakeItPhoto iPhone app.

My work computer is a Mac Mini (I believe it's the first generation with 512 MB - video editing is painful on this machine) with a 21 inch monitor and I edit on Final Cut Pro 5. That's my new MacBook Pro in the foreground.

Lacie external hard drive with Panasonic MiniDV camcorder.

Microphone and random DVCAM tape. I have no idea what's on that tape.

Container with a bunch of MiniDV tapes from various trips to Italy (I've never been to Italy, the people I work for have).

My Instagram screensaver, Screenstagram, on my MacBook Pro.

And last but not least, every office needs a nice view.

Fun With Video // Shawns

I am obsessed with watching YouTube and I am subscribed to over 300 channels. One of my favorite is Wheezy Waiter and he posted a making of to one of his latest videos. Since I now have a computer that can handle Final Cut without crashing every two seconds, I decided to run outside with the camera and Shawn and make my own little tribute to Wheezy Waiter and his clones.

Photo Story // Shitsville Goes Rockabilly!

This photo shoot has been in the planning for awhile now. It all started when I shot Miss Mischief wearing a dress from Shitsville Clothing a few months ago. I ended up having some email correspondence with the designer. She told me she was a fan of my work and I told her that I would love to shoot more of her clothing. She mailed two new dresses from her new collection all the way over from Italy. Once I saw them they seemed more retro than alternative so that was the route I wanted to take. Sidenote: Thanks Sara for the title of this post!

I asked models Joanna and Randi Lynn to help me out with this shoot. I've worked with Joanna before but not Randi Lynn even though I think she is one of the first models I met when I started shooting fashion. Smashbox makeup artist Rachael Pine helped out with hair and makeup. These girls really stepped it up for me when I was thinking this shoot was going to happen.

I was so relieved when I took my last shot of the day. After having the dresses from probably over a month, talking to at least six different models, and two different makeup artists/ hair stylists, I was glad when it was all done. A big thank you to the Shitsville family for sending dresses all the way from Italy to Rhode Island for me to shoot them.

I Heart Instagram

I came across the website Inkstagram this morning when I was searching for a site to view Instagram photos on a computer. For those who don't know Instagram is this great iPhone photo sharing app (which I already reviewed). Originally you could only view the photos on your iPhone but since Instagram released the API for the app, people have made sites where you can view the photos online and so much more. I like Inkstagram because I can view, like, and comment on other people's photos as well as see all the photos I've liked and see all the photos I've uploaded on one page. So as I was going through my photos I decided to share some of my favorite photos taken with the app here. Oh, and my user name is "brittanny" on there so follow me on Instagram!
