CinemaFX | iPhone photography app review

When I was thinking of a new photo app to review, I was going to do CameraBag which seems to be a pretty popular app. It's consistently in the top ten in paid iPhone apps. But as I was looking at my photo apps, I clicked on CinemaFX (which I have to admit is an app I rarely used) and realized that it is a pretty great app. It's actually better than CameraBag because not only does it give you the different style options, it actually lets you adjust the settings to your specifications.

With CameraBag, once you choose your style that's it. If the original photo wasn't perfectly exposed, maybe the style you choose will be too dark or too light and it just doesn't look the way you want it to. With CinemaFX you can use the sliders to adject the style to the way you like it.

Another cool thing is that you can layer styles. You can layer styles in other apps as well but normally you have to save the edited photo, then go back to your photo library and select the edited photo, add a new style, rinse and repeat. In CinemaFX you can add a style, click the "CinemaFX" logo up top, press done, and keep adding styles.

This the Charmed Glow style.

This is Egyptian Glow on top of Charmed Glow.

This is Surveillance Cam on top of Egyptian Glow on top of Charmed Glow.

If you just want to edit the brightness and contrast to the original photo, you have that option as well.

There are also options for image size (larger photo resolution for 3GS).

For only 99 cents, this is a pretty great photo app to get. Compared to CameraBag's $1.99, I think this app gives you a ton more options and needs a lot more recognition*.

*as on 3/29/10 it's number 71 out of the top 100 iPhone photography apps compared to CameraBag being at number 9.

The Week in Photos 03.27.10

I've been doing a lot of video editing and correspondence this week, which isn't the most exciting thing to take pictures of. This week I bought some new camera equipment. I bought a new 30mm macro lens, a new flash, and a ring light.

I shot Selena Rox yesterday. Even though it was pretty cold and windy, we had a fun shoot and look forward to warmer weather for our next shoot. You can check out all the photos here.

Later on I shot local band The Foundry, while Shawn got video of their performance. You can check out those photos here.

Some friends at the show.

And just to throw in how annoyed I am with it, I have the worst bluray player ever. It even tells me what it won't do.

The Week in Photos 03.20.10

Not much happened this week besides having a photo shoot on Wednesday with Sam and Sisters of the Moon. Sam came all the way from Maine with her daughter for the shoot and in my opinion it was well worth it. We shot for six hours but we got in a lot of looks. Her daughter was so cute and is one of the coolest five year olds I know. You can check out the whole set of photos here.

Thursday I went to the mall to pose for my friend Steph who works in the photo studio at JC Penney. It was cool being on the other side of the camera watching the photographer work. It was one of the most hilarious experiences in my life. I did the cheesiest poses and made faces the whole time. And I also mimed eating a fake rabbit. Anything to get the shot.

The past three or four days have been amazing so I have been spending as much time as possible outside before it rains again. My dog Maxwell has been enjoying all the time outside. He's happy even though he is giving me the meanest puppy face possible in this photo.

Today Shawn and I went to Lincoln Woods to hang out. We sat on a rock and talked about shoots we have coming up. Shawn is the one who got me into photography years ago (we've been together for over six years) but he most shoots scenic and architecture photos. I'm getting him into shooting models. He had his first shoot a couple of weeks ago and he did really well.

Afterwards we went to Woonsocket to walk around. We got some really good clam chowder and clamcakes from a stand in downtown Woonsocket. We also saw this really cool murdered out truck with a casket in the back.

Now we're going to watch some comedy specials and enjoy the rest of the night. How was your week?

The Week in Photos 03.13.10

Trying a new thing with the blog. Seeing if I want to do a week in photos each week (like I don't take enough photos in my life).

I had a shoot with Jayne Riot and Miss Carnage last Sunday. That was a lot of fun. They're great girls to work with. You can check out those photos here, here, and here.

Finally read The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Thinking about re-reading all the Harry Potter books... Naw, I'll probably just watch the movies.

Got another piece of jewelry in the mail from Lush Punk. Look out for a shoot with Jayne Riot wearing it soon.

A couple of days ago I took behind the scenes photos for fellow photographer Dustin Genereux. He's a really cool guy and an amazing photographer. I'm sure some people think of photography as a competition but I'd do anything to help Dustin out on a shoot and I know he'd do the same for me.

How was your week?

Sky and water - two new photos

I went out shooting with Shawn and our friend Dave yesterday. Here are two shots from the day. As you can probably tell, I prefer ridiculously bright colors instead of subtle, muted colors. Click on the pictures to see them bigger.

North Main Street Cemetery

After the big snowstorm a couple of months ago, my fiancé Shawn and I went to take some photos at this really big cemetery on North Main Street in Providence. We have piles of film sitting around so we shot some rolls. He used his Nikon N65 and shot on Ilford SFX 200 infrared film. I used my Minolta Maxxum 2000i and shot on Fuji Provia 400x slide film which was then cross processed. I also used my Canon AE-1 but have yet to finish the roll. Click the photos to see them bigger.
