Jeff Bujak @ The Spot Underground

I've heard lots about this Jeff Bujak guy. "He puts on an amazing show", "His music is incredible", "It's one of the best live shows you'll see" were just a few of things I've heard. So when I didn't go to his last show at The Spot Underground I then heard "Why weren't you there?", "What's wrong with you?", and had people looking at me like I was dumb. Of course I have to make a point of going next time he came. Last night was that time and I must agree that it was great show and Jeff Bujak (who I got to meet briefly afterward) is a sweetheart.

I chose to mostly shoot with no flash at all and just use the light from the stage show. I compensated for the lack of light with adjusting the ISO (I used between ISO 400-1600, mostly 400 though). I did pull out the wireless flash at one point but I didn't like what it was doing to the colors. Sometimes it's best to just work with what you have and see what happens.

Photo Story // Amy Messere

Last week I shot model and photographer Amy Messere. We were finishing up a shoot we started last summer. It started to rain so we put the shoot on hold and about nine months later, we finally finished. We climbed, we trespassed, we waded through mud. Whatever it took to get the shot. We had a fun day of adventuring and I really like how the shots came out.

Dropkick Murphys @ The Whiskey Republic

Last Monday was the private party for the opening of a new Irish rock bar and restaurant called The Whiskey Republic. I shot the party as well as a performance from Dropkick Murphys. It was a trip shooting them again. First in a huge arena in Mohegan Sun with thousands of people standing behind me to shooting them the next day in a much more intimate setting. The show was amazing and I can see The Whiskey Republic becoming one of my new favorite places to hang out.

Again I have to give a huge thank you to Shannon for making all of this possible.

There are tons more photos from the night. 151 in total! Check them all out on Flickr.

Dropkick Murphys @ Mohegan Sun

The past few pays have been absolutely amazing. Long story short, I was given the opportunity to shoot Dropkick Murphys at Mohegan Sun as well the after party for Ken Casey's organization, the Claddagh Fund. Basically I got a phone call a little after 6pm on Sunday asking me if I could come that night to Mohegan Sun to shoot. Of course I said yes. Do you really think I would say no? Once we got there and got our passes and the key to our hotel room, we went up to the sky box to watch the show. We didn't stay there long because we were asked to come backstage. Shawn and I were pretty much freaking out at that point. First of all we have never been in a sky box and now we're going to go backstage! It's was crazy. Shannon, the woman who made all of this possible, told me to go in front of the stage where all the security stands between the stage and the barricades to take photos. I couldn't believe that I was standing in front of the stage taking photos of the Dropkick Murphys. It was such an amazing experience that I am so grateful for. I can't thank Shannon and Katie enough for everything they've done. They are awesome and I'm blessed to know them. Also a big thanks for Ken Casey for giving up his hotel room so we could stay overnight.

Don't think that this is it! There are more photos from the show over on Flickr so check them out!

Photo Story // Adriana and Brendan

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of shooting Adriana Rossi and Brendan Oh. I feel like we've been planning the shoot for awhile so I was excited when that day finally arrived. Originally I wanted to shoot on location but of course it had to rain so my friend Bob Karambelas came to the rescue and we used his studio.

This was my first time working with Adriana. I was so excited that she was interested in working with me because I loved her other work and thought she was a great new model. She definitely did not disappoint and even doubled up as makeup artist for the shoot.

This was my second time working with Brendan. I'm sure he was glad to shoot inside. Our last shoot was outside in the cold and he could barely move because we didn't want the body paint to start to crack.

When we first walked up the stairs to the studio, we noticed a room with the door opened. I've never seen this door open so naturally we all looked in and we saw stacks and stacks of old laptops. Of course we had to shoot in there. I think the shot of Adriana and Brendan lying amongst the laptops has to be one of my favorite shots I've done.

We had tons of fun on this shoot. We decided to do this fun little set up between outfit changes. We pretended that Adriana and Brendan had a little fun the night before and Adriana got a little too comfortable and put on Brendan's work shirt. Brendan wasn't too pleased about that.

I loved working with these two and hopefully we can shoot together again soon.

Photo Story // Miss Mischief in Ruins

Today I shot Miss Mischief. I haven't shot her since October of last year. I always enjoy shooting her because it's effortless. She poses, I snap, and then the shoot is done within 30 minutes. I must thank my fiancé Shawn for finding the location. There is a skeleton of a house that burned down on the side of the road on his route to work and it was a perfect spot for our shoot.

Photo Story // Giuseppina Magazine Issue #5

I'm so glad I can finally show off the photos from my very first shoot of the year with everyone! The shoot was for the black history portion of the first double sided issue of Giuseppina Magazine. Giuseppina was the first magazine to publish my photos so I was thrilled that the editor, Jessica Rowell, decided to have me be included in this issue.

We had a very big team. Designer Ichigo Black from Boston sent clothing for us to use. I had my beauty team back together again for the first time since last summer, Lauren O'Jea on makeup and Erinn FitzGerald on hair. Bob Karambelas was kind enough to let us all take over his studio for a day and to help with the lighting. It was quite the day trying to figure out how we wanted the lighting. Once we figured it out everything to came together and I'm really happy with how the photos came out.

Last week Jessica the editor sent me a message and asked me to fill out a questionairre for the magazine. I thought it was just a few simple questions but I was surprised and excited to see it was a full interview! I've never been interviewed before so it was really exciting for me. Having my photo in a magazine is still tripping me out.

Finally I can post the photos from the shoot including one that didn't make it in the magazine. Definitely pick up a copy of the magazine. One side is dedicated to black artists in the alternative fashion industry and the other side is dedcated to Valentine's Day. You can buy a copy here and you get a free digital copy with your purchase.
