Photo Story // Evie West

Click image to enlarge.A few weeks ago I posted that I needed a model with really long legs for a personal project and Evie responded. The photo for that project is not completed yet but I wanted to post the other photos from our shoot. I wanted to test out the stack of filters effect on a shoot with a model (first talked about here). Evie didn't mind being my test subject. I think the results were successful. I really liked the soft effect with the location. It worked perfectly with the mix of green and orange leaves.

Gear Works // Making Digital Photos Look Like Film Without Using Photoshop

Yesterday I was looking for a stack of filters I had lying around to see if I had any colored filters. As I was trying some of them out, I picked up the whole stack and put them on the lens. The result was a soft, film like effect. It looks similar to what one would get with shooting with a Lomo camera.

Info: 28mm lens // 14 random filters stacked // ISO 400 // external flash between 1/2 and 1/4 power

The filters

Just like Lomo cameras, the result can be somewhat unpredicatble. It was hard for the camera to focus since I was shooting in a fairly dark bar.

Sometimes no matter what setting I put the flash on, the photos came out either way too bright or too dark. It was hard finding that happy medium.

Since I used my 28mm lens it gave a heavy vignette reminiscent of old film cameras.

This is a really cool effect and I can't wait to try it out on a photo shoot with a model. It's a super quick and easy way of getting the vintage look for a photos without doing a million different things in photoshop.

William Zanni // Studio Work

Last Saturday I shot model William Zanni in photographer Myke Yeager's studio. William and I have been trying to work together for awhile now and we finally set a day for last Saturday. This was also my first time meeting Myke Yeager in person. He was amazing enough to open up his studio for my shoot. This was my first time using strobes and Myke taught me how to use them. I am usually a natural light photographer but I do have a basic set of lights I use but they're usually used when I am doing a shoot in someone's apartment.

It was really cool laid back shoot. I had a lot of fun and I can't wait to work with William and Myke again. Check out William's Facebook Fan Page and his Model Mayhem and check out Myke's Facebook Fan Page and Model Mayhem and of course check out the rest of the photos here in the photo gallery.
