Mixtape // 1

I had to enable private sessions on Spotify because I keep listening to the same songs over and over and it gets kind of embarrassing. Lately I've been with obsessed with the new Thirty Seconds To Mars single, Up In The Air, along with its music video. Also Fall Out Boy has made a comeback and I'm now listening to My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up) on repeat. Following those two tracks are a bunch of other songs I've found over the past few weeks that I can't stop listening to. If you have any recommendations for me, leave them for me in a comment!

Photo Story // Mr Morris

Last week on a gorgeous Tuesday I ran around downtown Providence with Andy Morris aka Mr Morris. He wanted some photos for promotional material and I was happy that he wanted to do something different from typical photos of DJs. He wanted to reflect both the urban and natural sides of his personality.

Timeflies Lookbook with PLNDR

The lookbook I shot with Timeflies and PLNDR has finally been released! I was so excited to see the final layout. Complex Magazine published the photos, which was insanely exciting for me! Seeing my name in print like this has been one of the greatest moments of my photography career so far.

Behind the Scenes // Silver Medallion + PLNDR

Sunday night I made my way to New York to shoot DJ Silver Medallion for a look book with PLNDR. The heatwave in the city was in full effect. We all were pouring sweat but we made the trip from Brooklyn to Coney Island. I've never been to Coney Island so it was pretty awesome checking it out even for a little bit. I'm not a fan of amusement park rides but I would definitely go back to hang out and see the sights. We only had a limited time shooting but we had so much fun.

Behind the Scenes // Timeflies + PLNDR

I had the pleasure of shooting Timeflies for a lookbook for PLNDR in New York City last week. PLNDR is Karmaloop's extremely popular flash sale website. Danielle of popular fashion blog We Wore What was the stylist. Mandy was my lovely assistant for the day who went above and beyond the call of duty. It was such a fun whirlwind of a day and I was so lucky to be able to photograph Cal and Rez. They are going to blow up so check them out now before they make it big. A big thanks goes out to Heather for asking me to be a part of this shoot.

I can't wait to show everyone the photos but in the meantime here are some behind the scenes photos. Photos from Heather's, Timeflies', and my Instagrams.

Video Roundup // Jon Hope

I am so proud of Harry Grigsby aka Jon Hope. I have known him for practically nine years and his music career is taking off. He has released two fantastic music videos in the past month. I was lucky to film a "stripped" with him before he becomes too huge! Check out my video with him after you watch his two latest music videos.

Vintage Trouble and Van Hunt @ Fete

Last Saturday I shot Vintage Trouble and Van Hunt at Fete Music in Providence. Vintage Trouble put on an amazing show. I hear they will be on the Jimmy Kimmel show April 24th. They were so energetic and fun and I can't wait to listen to more of their music.

Van Hunt, the headliner of the night, was soulful and cool. I loved that the bass player played a double bass and I get excited every time I see a female drummer. The show that night as a whole was amazing and I was glad I was there to photograph it.

stripped // ben franklin "unscripted #1"

After a little break I am back with a new "stripped". This one is brought to us by Ben Franklin, a hip hop musician from Massachusetts. We had a photo shoot that day and I thought that we had to do a quick video. Underneath is a sneak peek from the photo shoot.

stripped // jon hope "hellogoodbye"

The latest video in my stripped series features Jon Hope. We met in college and I'm happy to say he is just as nice of a person as he was all those years ago. He wrote this piece just for my project, which made me very proud. Even though we were battling the loud sounds coming from a construction site a street over, I'm happy how this video came out.

Photo by David ApuzzoI had to use this photo because I was just chatting on twitter with the subject of this photo, musician Mike Falzone. He makes the funniest videos on YouTube and he's an amazing musician. Definitely check out his YouTube channel. David Apuzzo is also an amaing photographer so check him out as well.

These photographs of suitcases that were found in the attic of the Willard Asylum for the Insane in New York are intriguing and unsettling at the same time. It's so sad that these people had their belongings taken away from them to be locked away in the attic, never to be returned to their rightful owners.

Meta P in the Providence Phoenix

A photo I took of Rhode Island based emcee Meta P. I had the pleasure of shooting him a few weeks ago for an article he would be featured in for the Providence Phoenix. Well it's out and I was surprised to see it on the cover as well as accompanying the article. Needless to say I was pretty excited.

Meta P's new album Edison's Ink is now available for sale.

Dropkick Murphys @ Fenway Park

Yesterday I posted the photos from Mighty Mighty Bosstones portion of the show at Fenway Park. I mentioned that this was my third time shooting the Dropkick Murphys. The sun had set, the stage lights turned off, a spotlight turned on to the Green Monster which followed the Dropkicks as they came down, walked across the field, and came on stage. The crowd was going wild. Evey time I see them, be it in a large venue with thousands of people or a bar with a three hundred people, the show is just as energetic and fun. Tonight I'll be shooting Dropkicks again at The Whiskey Republic for their Shamrock N' Roll Festival.

These are just a few of my favorite shots of the Dropkick Murphys. Check out all the photos from this show on Flickr.

Fake Criterion made by me

I'm obsessed with Fake Criterion covers. The Tumblr page dedicated to them is awesome. Here are some more fake Criterions that I have made: Office Space, Clueless, The Twilight Saga.

That's all for this week's roundup! I've been enjoying sharing things I find on the web that may not be related to photography.

Photo Story // The Nilotic

Shooting The Nilotic brought out a first for me. It was my first time shooting something that was specifically dark and unsettling. This shoot was not meant to be pretty and airbrushed. The Nilotic is a pansexual, crossdressing rapper who is not afraid to push the boundaries and break into people's comfort zones. His goal is to make you think about sexuality, gender, religion, popular culture, and more with his lyrics. It was definitely an interesting and cool experience photographing and getting to know The Nilotic. So if you can handle it, check out his website and listen to his music (it's definitely NSFW but did you really think it would be?).

Rebirth Brass Band

On Saturday, April 9th, I went to The Spot Underground to check out the Rebirth Brass Band. I was told that I had to see them becuase they put on such an amazing show. Of course I had to take some photos but when I looked at them afterwards, they looked so lackluster. I decided that some black and white processing had to happen. It definitely livened up the photos.

Dropkick Murphys @ Mohegan Sun

The past few pays have been absolutely amazing. Long story short, I was given the opportunity to shoot Dropkick Murphys at Mohegan Sun as well the after party for Ken Casey's organization, the Claddagh Fund. Basically I got a phone call a little after 6pm on Sunday asking me if I could come that night to Mohegan Sun to shoot. Of course I said yes. Do you really think I would say no? Once we got there and got our passes and the key to our hotel room, we went up to the sky box to watch the show. We didn't stay there long because we were asked to come backstage. Shawn and I were pretty much freaking out at that point. First of all we have never been in a sky box and now we're going to go backstage! It's was crazy. Shannon, the woman who made all of this possible, told me to go in front of the stage where all the security stands between the stage and the barricades to take photos. I couldn't believe that I was standing in front of the stage taking photos of the Dropkick Murphys. It was such an amazing experience that I am so grateful for. I can't thank Shannon and Katie enough for everything they've done. They are awesome and I'm blessed to know them. Also a big thanks for Ken Casey for giving up his hotel room so we could stay overnight.

Don't think that this is it! There are more photos from the show over on Flickr so check them out!

Roots of Creation and The Indobox

On Saturday the 12th of this month I went to The Spot Underground to see Roots of Creation and The Indobox. On their Facebook fan page, Roots of Creation call themselves a "The Reggae/RoC Dubtronica Hybrid". Quite honestly I am not a fan of reggae but I did enjoy their show. The mix of Electronica made it much more enjoyable. I played around with my flash remotely to play around with the light against the light from their show.

Next up was The Indobox which is a dance rock band. I really liked them since they reminded me of bands like Phoenix (which they covered) and Passion Pit. I really enjoy shooting bands with elaborate light shows. It makes it so much more fun.

Check out the rest of the photos from that night on Flickr and add Roots of Creation and The Indobox on Facebook.

Third Thursday's Live Hip Hop @ The Spot Underground 01.20.11

The first Third Thursday of 2011 was Ladies Night. Female poets and emcess from Southern New England came and graced the mic with their talent. It was great night and without further ado, on to the photos.

Sully's Cafe at The Green Room with Ross Livermore

Shawn and I crashed this week's recording of Sully's Cafe at the Green Room podcast with special guest, Ross Livermore of the Ross Livermore Band. Ross talked about his band's upcoming CD, past residences at local music venues, and future plans. He also played three songs, which were all fantastic (When I Fall Down was my favorite). Ross was kind enough to give me a copy of his band's EP. I already listened to it and it was really great. I'm a big fan and I can't wait to hear the new album, coming out this summer.

Here are some photos taken during the recording of the podcast.

Become a fan of Ross Livermore Band on Facebook. Also become a fan of Sully's Cafe on Facebook and check out the Sully's Cafe website.
